How Solar Works

Transforming sunlight into clean, renewable power.

Sunlight can be converted directly into electric current, and solar modules are the key to this amazing conversion. A solar module (also known as a solar panel) is essentially a group of photovoltaic cells connected together electrically in a frame. Photovoltaic (PV) cells are made from silicon and other conductive materials, processed into thin layers. When sunlight hits a solar module with photons (particles of sunlight), electrons in the cells are set free, creating direct current (DC) electricity. The electrons flow out of the solar module into an inverter and other electrical safety devices. The inverter then converts that “DC” power into “AC” power, the alternating current of the utility grid-connected system.

At New Road Energy, we realize a solar energy system is only as reliable as its components. After all, it’s the components that make the conversion happen. That’s why each solar system we design is customized to reach maximum efficiency for each application. Our systems not only employ the best components and warranties on the market, but all ancillary parts (all the way down to bolts and screws) are stainless steel or aluminum—in other words, durable and long lasting. We take care to ensure a reliable, maintenance free system that will produce clean energy for decades to come.
